Some of you know that I taught yoga for 10 years. I began in 2003, teaching classes at a local golf course, the YMCA in Eagan, and a dance studio that I rented out by the hour.
I left teaching in 2012, feeling like I had completed a very valuable and enriching life cycle.
Now, another 10 years have passed, and I have the gift of reflection available to me. I know I will probably never again experience something quite as extraordinary as I did for that decade. The circles of connection and friendship ran deep and wide; it was so much more than yoga. Each of the people who came to these classes changed me in some way—made me better, stronger, wiser. While I know that this period of time for me is truly in the rearview mirror, I miss it often.
Over the years, I tried out and taught many different things and styles of yoga. But my favorite, by far, was Yin yoga. Yin was soft, gentle, quiet, and yet so powerful. It gave us time to sit together without expectation or hurry. It opened up the doors to the inner landscape.
Lately, I’ve been writing. a few articles for Spirituality & Health Magazine. This has long been a goal of mine and, after numerous pitches, am finally building a writer/editor relationship that is so much fun.
The most recent article I wrote for them is about Yin yoga—and how to use it to manage the emotions of fear and anxiety. I talk more in the article about how and why this association exists.
I will be writing a couple more for them in this series, next focusing on anger, and after that, grief.
For now, here is the link to the article. I hope you have a chance to give this sequence a try, and then let me know your thoughts!

Oh, and PS - the beautiful model for these postures is my daughter, who just graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in kinesiology! :)
I love yin too! And, Interestingly, I did my YTT in Ashtanga! Yin was my counter asana. Love this Keri and thanks to your daughter for modeling.
