In a post shared on March 14, I introduced the Black Stage of personal alchemical transformation. This is the stage of the breakdowns, the meltdowns, and the falling aparts of our lives.
Now, let’s move on to stage 2, known as the Albedo, or White Stage. You can watch the video and/or read the text below:
The fire is over, the burning is done, the smoke has cleared. All that remains are embers. There is only one way forward: get to work.
Whatever has survived the fire is now up for investigation and understanding. This is a time of exploration and curiosity, sorting through all the nooks and crannies of our beliefs and conditioning. We must apply objectivity and honesty about what parts of ourselves are worth salvaging and carrying over into the rebirth.
This second stage is called the Albedo Stage, or the White Stage.
The White stage is when the light starts to come back in. We begin to sort through all that's been broken down. We’re searching for what’s good, meaningful, and beneficial.
This is the ruminating, sorting, and discernment stage.
No matter how much of our lives might be in disarray, there is always salvageable material —things that you have picked up in your life that are good and worthy. You don't want to just throw away everything. That is a mistake that a lot of people make—one that I have made in my life before I had the tools for sorting and discerning and disseminating and separating one thing from the other.
For example: sometimes a toxic belief can get layered onto a belief that was originally very helpful and could be again. Rather than discarding both beliefs, we can pull them apart and rid ourselves of the toxic part. Let’s say you have a belief in your own independence, which is good and powerful. But, somewhere in your life, you layered on a belief that asking for help is a weakness. You can see why you don’t need to get rid of both beliefs. Keep what’s good and supportive. Let go of what no longer serves you.
This is the work of the White Stage.
Coming soon: The Red Stage, or the Rebirth.
