Dear Power Source subscribers:
This month, I turn 50! It’s crazy to think about it in a number form like that. It’s hard to believe that I have (probably) experienced more life than I have still before me.
I think about words, words like “crone” “elder” “wise ones” and '‘old hag”. I think about claiming and reclaiming these words for the power they represent. This is the age of invisibility for women especially, but there is a great gift in that invisibility…an opportunity to re-weave the fabric of our cultural consciousness in the unseen spaces.
This invisible work is not as bold as that of my earlier years…it’s not as interested in being seen or given kudos. Invisible work is done for its own sake, because it must be done, because it calls to me.
I’m going to begin another book, a series, actually, about the process of transformation, and the emergence into elderhood. As Michael Meade, teacher and storyteller often says, we are a culture that knows how to grow older, but few of us know how to become elder. Well, I am going to practice elderhood. I intend to explore what it really means to “come of age.”
I’m also looking into offering some workshops on this topic, co-leading them with another wise woman and friend. So, please start watching for these offerings in your email box, which will be designed specifically for pre-menopausal and menopausal women. (Men, don’t worry, we’re cooking up something special for you as well!)
But, for this month, I’m mostly focused on celebrating! In fact, I’ve been detailing each day of my birthday month on Instagram, and having a lot of fun with it. If you’d like to follow along, join me here!
Until next time, cheers!
